Smoke
Runs
Deep Here

For over six decades, Troutman's has been the place Denton comes to honor the slow, patient art of whole-hog barbecue — wood-fired, hand-rubbed, and served with pride.

Sixty Years of Patience & Smoke

Troutmans Barbecue opened its doors in Denton in 1964, built on a simple conviction: that the best barbecue cannot be rushed. Whole hogs, rubbed with a dry spice blend passed down through the Troutman family, are slow-fired over hardwood until the meat surrenders — tender, smoky, and deeply flavorful.

What began as a roadside stand serving hungry travelers on North Carolina Highway 109 has grown into a beloved community landmark. Generations of families have broken bread at our long tables, and the smell of hickory smoke still draws people in from all over the Piedmont.

We don't chase trends. We tend the fire. Every cut, every plate, every visit — it all honors the same tradition that started here more than sixty years ago.

Our Signature Offerings

Every item on our menu comes from the same pit, the same rub, the same patient flame. What changes is the cut — and each one tells its own story.

Pulled pork glistening with natural juices

Pulled Pork

Our hand-pulled whole hog pork, smoked slow over hickory until it falls apart at the touch. Simple, smoky, and deeply satisfying.

Smoked pork ribs with dark bark

Smoked Ribs

St. Louis-cut ribs, dry-rubbed and smoked low and slow. The bark is dark, the meat yields cleanly from the bone.

Whole smoked pork shoulder on a cutting board

Whole Hog Platter

The full Troutman's experience — a mix of shoulder, loin, and rib cuts, all from the same hog, all from the same pit.

More Than a Meal, a Tradition

Slow-Fired Daily

Every morning, our pitmasters load the smokers. By lunch, the smoke is rolling and the aroma fills the parking lot. We don't start until the fire is right.

Community Tables

Long wooden tables, no reservations needed. Pull up a chair beside strangers who become regulars — that's just how it works at Troutman's.

Family Owned

Three generations of the Troutman family have kept this fire burning. The recipes haven't changed, and neither has the standard.

Come Hungry.
Leave Happy.

We open every day the fire is lit. Stop by, call ahead, or grab a pew — we'll have a plate waiting for you.
